CUBRC Subsidiary Avarint Awarded $84 Million Contract

dfgd

Avarint LLC, headquartered in Buffalo, New York, has been awarded an $83,740,389 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, contract for

the ongoing development and support of various systems that together comprise the United States Air Force (USAF) Virtual Integrated Electronic Warfare Simulations (VIEWS) II program. Under this five-year contract, Avarint will provide software development, systems engineering and maintenance, and training program support under the direction of the USAF Test Center located at Edwards Air Force Base, California.

The primary component of the VIEWS II program is a highly complex modeling and simulation system known as the Digital Integrated Air Defense System or DIADS. DIADS is an integrated, multi-spectral, virtual battlespace environment that is suitable for high fidelity, realistic test and evaluation of advanced sensor based, fused information systems. DIADS is used to support a wide variety of training activities and aircraft survivability testing at over 40 locations throughout the World. Tom Jasinski, Avarint Vice President and VIEWS II Program Manager stated “The continued development of DIADS, which has its roots based in research started in Buffalo during the 1960’s, is significant to our region as it will support the continued advanced development of various aircraft survivability technologies.” The new work on this contract is the result of significant technology investments being made by the Air Force to update ground based and open-air test systems that are supported under the VIEWS II program. The program includes major upgrades being made to the Installed System Test Infrastructure supporting the Benefield Anechoic Test Chamber Facility located at Edwards AFB. Jasinski continued, “The test and training capabilities that will be developed under this contract will provide new and advanced systems that are critical to providing realistic, simulation based test and training of flight systems under a wide variety of conditions.” In particular, a significant portion of this work will focus on the development and integration of advanced sensors and avionics architectures into DIADS and other systems that fuse information obtained from multiple sources including the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft.

Michael Moskal, Avarint Senior Vice President and CIO added, “The electronic warfare test and evaluation infrastructure developed and supported under this contract will greatly help the Air Force keep pace with advances in technology and new mission employment concepts as they emerge. Additionally, the contract secures the work of nearly 40 of our most highly skilled engineers, software developers and domain experts and provide new job opportunities for up to 15 additional Buffalo-based employees.”

Work on this contract will be performed primarily at Avarint’s Buffalo, New York headquarters, and at Edwards Air Force Base, California. Work on this contract is expected to be complete by March, 2020.
